...That's why it is important that students work closely with the college counselor to make the process smooth and even exciting. St. Stephen's offers its students a variety of career and college counseling services in order to prepare students for the future and to aid in the college or university search process.
While college counseling officially begins in grade 11, through our advisory program and commitment to maintaining a close-knit community, students are supported in the achievement of their personal and academic goals from the day they enter our school. 9th and 10th graders are encouraged to get involved in the life of the school community through extracurricular activities, develop strong student habits and skills, and to think about summer programs that can enhance their talents. 11th and 12th graders are counseled on standardized testing, formulating college lists, writing CVs and personal statements, completing the application, and most importantly finding the right college "fit" so that they thrive in their further education.
College Counseling:
Due to our international student body, students choose to apply to multiple education systems and matriculate to universities throughout the world. Requirements for admission to the US are different than requirements for admission to the UK, for instance, and therefore students, families, and the college counselor must work closely to be fully prepared for the application process.
Making sense of this process can sometimes be overwhelming and create unwanted stress. Reading the College Handbook carefully, attending college visits, researching colleges, travelling to colleges, and meeting with the college counselor, are all great ways to get prepared. Research and self-reflection are both fundamental to the college preparation process, and being aware of and respecting deadlines will help students develop thier plan and make the experience exciting rather than stressful. While primary assistance is offered to our senior and junior classes, grade level information is listed in the sub pages in the left hand column.
