Head of SchoolNow in his third year as Head, Mr. Mayer comes to the School with more than two decades of professional experience. HIs various educational roles include teaching faculty, department chair, college counselor, community service director and most recently, upper school principal at the Westtown School in West Chester, PA, where he managed the budget, staffing, and all aspects of student life for a school of 400 students – 300 of whom were boarders. Mr. Mayer has also led several education initiatives and continues to serve as a leadership consultant to independent schools. A father of four, Mr. Mayer resides near campus with his wife, who is also an educator.
A native of Genova, Italy, she moved to Rome in 1996. Prior to her role at St. Stephen’s, she spent the majority of her career in finance and operations. After working in a small shipping company in Genova, Grazia joined Deloitte, a worldwide leader in auditing, where she gained valuable professional experience over a period of five years as Senior Auditor working with various industries and scores of companies. In 1987, she was hired in Milan to be the manager of the Financial Consolidation Department of SAES Getters S.p.a., a world leader in electronic components, and part of the Fiat Group. Two years later, she was named Cost Accounting Manager at Apple Computer, also in Milan. Her husband’s work took the family to Florence and there Grazia joined Gucci where she remained for four years as Budget and Reporting Manager until the family returned to Milan in 1994. She was appointed Finance Manager of C&K Systems, a US multinational electronic manufacturing company, but work took her husband to Rome where she joined St. George’s British International School as Bursar. After four years there, she moved to London with her husband and then returned to St. George's School in 2002 where she remained until 2013.
Assistant Head, Academic Affairs
In her extensive career with the school, she has taught the gamut of higher math courses and has also held a number of other positions, including head of mathematics, faculty representative to the EXCOM, trips director, trustee and college counselor. In her current role as Assistant Head for Academic Affairs, she continues to teach math while providing guidance and feedback to fellow teachers, handling students’ issues and organizing coursework and syllabuses, among other duties. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Ms. Dostert earned a BA from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She also has a Laurea in mathematics from the University of Rome, La Sapienza. Prior to teaching at St. Stephen’s, she enjoyed a singing career at Folkstudio, taught math at an American college in Rome and was a lecturer in Logic at the University of Rome, Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia.

Alex has been an international school educator since 1999, a profession that has taken him to Japan, Austria, Germany, Australia and the UK. He has taught English A, German A, Spanish ab initio, TOK and Theatre and also works for the IBO as workshop leader, examiner and school inspector. Before becoming a teacher, he briefly worked in corporate communication as well as editing a bilingual learner's dictionary for Oxford University Press. He holds degrees from the University of Cambridge, Frankfurt University and the Central School of Speech and Drama, London.
