Volver a Cuba! Return to Cuba! Exhibit at the St. Stephen's Cultural Center on May 3rd

In December 2015, Cuban artist and long time Roman resident Anita Guerra, returns to Havana for the first time in more than 50 years. She has an ambitious project: to write an illustrated family memoir describing the tumultuous years of the Castro Revolution and how it affects her family. Once there, her research takes multiple directions. She discovers the amazing, almost undocumented legacy of her architect father, Juan Ignacio Guerra, a leading figure of the Cuban Modernist Movement of the 1950’s. Tracing back her family’s presence on the island to the XVIc, she travels to her mother’s hometown of Camagüey and goes in search of her father’s creations all over Havana joined by three of her seven siblings. Drawings, paintings and photographs done on site abound.  Embroidered recollections stitched on mosquito netting overlap oil landscapes of Varadero Beach. This exhibit shares her treasure trove of findings in a unique installation.

Mark Your Calendars for the Annual Science Fair at St. Stephen's!

That's right, the St Stephen's Science Fair is just around the corner. Join us on Tuesday, April 26th from 8:30am-2:00pm. This year, the Science Department is doing things a little differently.  Department Chair Dr. Fiona Leckie outlines this year's fair as follows:

We have modeled the Science Fair after our annual Treasure Hunt Day. Our theme is ‘How to survive on a desert island.’ Students will be divided into groups and there will be eight challenges from the four science subjects for each group to complete in a certain time frame using the same materials. Each group will be assigned a classroom and will have an 11th grade student leader.  Students will be expected to complete the challenges during the morning hours and will be judged in early afternoon. An award ceremony will be held in the auditorium where the winners will be announced and the prizes distributed.

Make sure you check our Facebook page throughout the day for updates! Stay tuned for more...
