IB Latin Students to Spend the Weekend Studying Vergil's Aeneid at Villa Vergiliana

St. Stephen's IB Latin students will spend the weekend at the Villa Vergiliana in Cumae. The event, sponsored by the Lyceum, offers students a unique opportunity to study Vergil in a truly Vergilian location!

Villa Vergiliana is where Vergil spent a lot of time and most likely wrote a lot of the Aeneid. The location is rich in associations with the Aeneid.

From the Lyceum & Arcadia University, the Event of the Year: "I Have a Scream I Want the World to Hear" on Monday, October 2, 6-7:30 pm

“I have a scream I want the world to hear.”

Syrian refugee, participant in the Syrian Trojan Women project

This woman’s scream has now been heard by audiences in Jordan, in Switzerland, and recently throughout the UK through an inspirational project created by a British classicist/journalist and her film-maker husband.

St. Stephen’s Lyceum, together with Arcadia University, is very pleased to present

Charlotte Eagar and William Stirling

co-founders of Refuge Productions, whose idea it was to use Euripides’ anti-war play The Trojan Women as a means of helping Syrian refugee women deal with their suffering, loss and exile and of giving them a voice through which they could tell their experiences.

Monday 2nd October 6:00-7:30 pm

St. Stephen’s Auditorium

Via Aventina 3

Charlotte and William will talk about bringing the play to Amman in 2013, and the response of the women to the ancient Greek tragedy, which so powerfully mirrored their own experiences of war and devastation. “This is a wonderful idea. We carry so much sadness in our heart. Now we can share it”, said one of the women.

They will also show their recently completed 30-minute documentary, The World to Hear, which tells of the highly successful tour of the Queens of Syria, a remake of Euripides’ play, by 13 Syrian refugee women in July last year in the UK.

Charlotte has also co-produced a 6 part radio series entitled ‘We are all Refugees’ in conjunction with the UNHCR and Souriali Radio.
