ABOUT ST. STEPHEN'S

St. Stephen's School is a non-denominational, co-educational, international boarding and day school, enrolling students from age 14-19 in grades 9-12 and for a postgraduate year.

Founded in 1964, St. Stephen's provides a demanding classical and liberal arts college-preparatory curriculum. We offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in grades 11 and 12, as well as the American High School Diploma and a selection of Advanced Placement examinations.

MATHEMATICS AT ST. STEPHEN'S

Through inquiry-based instruction and integrated technology, the mathematics courses at St. Stephen's encourage students to embrace the universality of math and understand its pervasive influence on our everyday lives. With a focus on patterns and structure, methodology, problem-solving, logical analysis and deductive reasoning students are challenged to reach their full potential while engaged in a demanding program of study.

As the essence of mathematics is, at its core, a search for truth that can be verified by irrefutable proof, we train students to construct careful and rigorous arguments, to think logically and critically and to use the language of mathematics with precision both orally and in writing. Through the study of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, probability and calculus, students appreciate the important role mathematics plays in a modern society.

ABOUT ISMTF

The ISMTF is a nonprofit foundation whose purpose is to provide support in the enrichment of teaching and learning of mathematics at international schools, nurture exchange of experiences among mathematics educators, and to help generate interest in and enthusiasm for mathematics among students of these schools.

July 22 - August 4, 2018

Open to students ages 13 to 18, the two-week Arts & Humanities summer program offers courses taught by the distinguished faculty of St. Stephen's School, along with exceptional local teachers.

Students in the program enroll in a language course (Italian or Latin), a core course (focusing on ancient Rome or Renaissance Art) and an elective course (course choices include Creative Writing and 2D/3D Studio Art). There are breaks between classes and a study hall period in the afternoons. The school's library and computer labs are open and available to students throughout the day.

Our summer session also includes an evening Cultural Program with events held on-site around the city of Rome, such as the opera and other musical and theatrical performances where the backdrop is Rome itself, outings to important landmarks in the city opened for special evening visits and excursions to different neighborhood and ice cream shops (gelaterie) in Rome.
