IN FOCUS
Advisory

We prioritize open communication and parental involvement in the well-being of our students. To facilitate this, each student is assigned a faculty advisor who serves as the primary contact for parents seeking to discuss their child's welfare with the school.

At the beginning of the school year, students meet with their advisor in an advisory group to establish a connection. Parents have the opportunity to meet with advisors on Back to School Night in late September and again at Parent-Advisor conferences held in November and March. These meetings provide valuable opportunities for parents to engage in discussions about their child's progress and well-being.

Advisors play a crucial role in monitoring and supporting students throughout the academic year. They gather anecdotal information through grade-level review meetings, formal requests, and informal conversations to gain insights into the progress and well-being of their advisees. They act as a liaison between class teachers and parents regarding homework assignments, especially when an advisee has an extended absence due to illness. Advisors also monitor academic progress and provide comments on mid-term and semester reports.

For boarding students, advisors assume an additional role in communicating with parents about family concerns, school activities, and life in the boarding community.

The advisory system is organized by the Director of Student Affairs, who consults with students and faculty to designate advisors at the beginning of each academic year. This ensures that each student is assigned an advisor who can provide appropriate guidance and support throughout their time at the school.

At St. Stephen's, we value the advisor-student-parent relationship as a crucial component of student well-being, academic progress, and overall success.

Student Wellness & Counseling

The well-being and support of our students are paramount, and our commitment to student care extends beyond academics. We provide comprehensive wellness and counseling services throughout the year to address a wide range of student needs. Our dedicated team of school counselors is available Monday through Friday during school hours to work collaboratively with students, parents, and faculty/staff. Students can access counseling services through scheduled appointments or on a drop-in basis.

We understand the importance of confidentiality and respect the privacy of our students. While parental involvement is highly encouraged and valued, we only communicate with parents when there is a 'risk' issue, a formal referral, or with the prior agreement of the student.

Counseling at St. Stephen's aims to provide a safe and supportive environment where students can address various concerns, from academic challenges to personal and emotional well-being. Our counselors are trained professionals who offer guidance, empathy, and practical strategies to help students navigate their academic journey.

We believe that by promoting mental health and fostering a culture of support, our students can thrive academically and personally.
