The third year into his fellowship, he began teaching music at a recently founded American school by the name of St. Stephen's and has been imparting his knowledge and talent with students ever since. Over the past four decades he has taught a range of courses that have included Music Appreciation, Music History and Music Theory. Having founded the school’s instrumental program, he has also directed the St. Stephen’s School chorus. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, educated at the University of Tennessee (BM), Princeton University (MFA), and the Hochschule für Musik, Berlin, Trythall also received a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Fulbright Fellowship, a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship and numerous composition commissions. As a concert pianist he won First Prize in the "Kranichsteiner Competition" (Darmstadt, Germany, 1969), and has had an active performing and recording career for the past 40 years. In addition to his role at St. Stephen’s, he also teaches "Twentieth Century Music Theory" for New York University in Florence and is Music Consultant for the American Academy in Rome.
